Bazajaytee's blog
Ken Block and his Subaru Impreza WRX STI snow cat.
Probably one of the coolest things ever to be made.
So Face Plant is what, coming up to 4 years old in total this August (where did the time go
) and it started basically as just a place for people to pick up news and to chat in forums as other sites seemed to have a close knit community that was difficult for anyone from the outside to get into. Snowboard Club UK www.snowboardclub.co.uk was one of the most open communities out of them all and I made a lot of friends on that site. Snowboard.com www.snowboard.com is a decent site but has had so many technical difficulties over the years that it became a chore to keep going back to. Both of those sites combined would be a great site... wouldn't it?
Well thats what the newer redesigned site is meant to be about and bring to people. A place to chat, find out news AND to create and share their profiles. Moving over has had its share of challenges
- I lost every member the website used to have. It wasn't loads but it was enough.
- Its difficult to get people involved in the site, everyone has their own things to do and less time for the smaller sites now days. Facebook, Bebo, MySpace etc. all have a huge draw to them. Would be nice for that kind of numbers but then how do you manage them?
- Building an entirely new site from Postnuke (which is no more) over to Dolphin (www.boonex.com). Dolphin in itself is a great bit of software but it was designed for dating sites as some of you might have seen with some messages from the site going on about Speed Dating. This isn't me trying to chat you up, its just finding the little buggers and changing the text from saying that.
- Of course I have things going on in my own life which means I can't put in as much time on the site as I would like to. After all job and getting paid also pays for the site so its good to keep that going

- The site got so big back in the day on Postnuke that the server we run the site on had to be upgraded twice. Now it looks like we need to upgrade again, not because of the large number of people joining the site unfortunately
but because I am basically a hosting provider now along with Simon (Uber Yogi) and even host sites for a band and a record company as well as a clothing store. So if you want to create a website but dont know where to get good hosting then just ask me and I'm sure I can fit you on the server
By the way, want to see what Face Plant used to look like? Something like this: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.face-plant.co.uk
